Artist Statement:

I value the process of harmonizing the texture, touch, and oil paint through abstract painting work. A flat surface is both classic and attractive. From that moment on, when the canvas embraces the oil paint with a tight sense of tension, an unimaginable world unfolds. The encounter of physical forces and materials is the beginning of a narrative. Originally, human stories are like tug-of-war between fate and adventure.

The painting work I do is not simply applying paint to the canvas. It is both the scream of a dancer on a canvas and the clamor for silence. My emotions and rational senses that I realize in painting are a journey of imagination that cannot be captured even if I try to capture them.

Biography: Born in Seoul, Korea, I fell deeply in love with the art of film from an early age. I majored in literary creation and philosophy at university and completed a master's degree in film theory and film history. Since then, I have fallen into serious concerns about the convergence of art as well as film and fine art. Seven years ago, I began to focus on abstract painting. With the drag of having to draw recklessly, I began painting while facing a moment that my ego would not endure if I did not. The feeling that I would not be confirmed that I was alive if I did not really just draw led me to the canvas.

After that, as I was doing the brush, the vague inner side gradually settled down, and the conviction held on to reason. After all, abstraction is myself.
