Galina Rogovaya

I was born in Kharkov, Ukraine, on December 28, 1990. In 2008, I enrolled in the art and graphic department at the University G. S. Skovoroda, obtaining pedagogical and artistic education.

In 2013, I defended my diploma in book graphics. Between 2013 and 2019, I illustrated over 10 children's books and authored a drawing guide for kids. Concurrently, from 2009 to 2019, I provided private drawing lessons for children while exploring various artistic directions such as graphics, painting, and macramé.

The onset of the war in Ukraine in early 2022 marked a profound division in my life, creating a clear distinction between 'before' and 'after.' I was compelled to leave my hometown due to the conflict. My friends helped save and hide my paintings in a bomb shelter, resulting in an unexpected underground exhibition, a dream I never imagined.

In March 2022, I evacuated from the combat zone to a remote village. Despite limited internet access and with the assistance of friends, I successfully sold nearly all my paintings in the USA.

My choice of subjects for the paintings submitted to the competition stemmed from my profound feelings about people and the intrinsic value of their lives. My artwork encapsulates the importance of every individual—their thoughts, feelings, emotions, and life experiences.
