Jo Gamel

"Jo Gamel, a Philadelphia-based artist, draws inspiration from her multi-faith upbringing and global religious symbols, fostering a deep interest in the divine designs of reverence. A neurological ailment impacting her left eye led her to delve into unique ethereal perceptions of color through vanitas oil paintings. Now, Gamel is merging her spirituality, and perception of color with reverence for female creatives in her "Rock Goddesses" painting series. This commitment has earned her accolades, including excellence awards, study grants for global holy sites, community honors, and a residency at The Governor’s School TCNJ. Her works have secured scholarships and top exhibition prizes nationwide.

Having taught at institutions like Moore College and Science Leadership Academy, she's also the brain behind art foundations and CEO of Tutor of the Arts LLC, with a curatorial role at Crown of Creation PHL. She champions the divine feminine creative essence in everyone. Gamel honed her expertise at Sotheby's Institute of Art, under Ekaterina Popova, and at institutions like PAFA and Florence Academy of Art. A Moore College BFA graduate, she pursued a master's degree in art therapy in Seattle.

Outside visual arts, Gamel is making music with her band, Jüpiter, centered on powerful women from history. This album will feature an illustrated libretto. Concurrently, she's co-penning a textbook with Dr. Michael Mackay, exploring oil paint's intricate science.
