Lihong Zhang

Lihong Zhang, is an artist based in Melbourne. The artist was born in Beijing, and she completed a bachelor’s degree in design, engaged in advanced studies of contemporary painting in The University of Melbourne.

Since an early age she developed a love for painting; studied at the Beijing Youth Palace in her childhood, has got a National Painting Award, that was a memorable part of her childhood. The artist developed her dream studio in both Melbourne and Beijing.

Lihong is influenced by Claude Monet’s work and in 2015 she studied impressionist painting for one year in Beijing.

Since moving to Melbourne Lihong has become an active member of the Victorian Artist Society, participating in many exhibitions and art fairs. Currently Lihong has chosen the Lotus as a reflection of her culture and a subject for the further exploration of modern impression. They have an exclusive colourful appearance that could be recognized as Lihong’s style.

The Lotus symbolizes the charm of Oriental Zen, calm and harmony, bringing a fresh interpretation to the impressionist oeuvre, the viewer can observe the delight the artist has for the paint medium, conveyed through a carefully crafted colour palette and emotive brushstrokes. An abstract short-hand portrays the flower in a surreal and ambiguous setting, without detracting from the plants’ sensual beauty. Hers is a singular vision, often completed at night time, the outcome fueled by her dreams and noctumal thoughts. Lihong draws inspiration from both her cultural influences, of east and west. The artist intends her lotus imagery to inspire all of us to persevere despite life’s challenges.

Lihong’s every work is filled with passion for her love of art, nature and culture. Her art reflects her painting journey with perfection.
