Renè J

Art, pictures, and music have always been an important part of my life. As a very young person, I was faced with the choice between a formal education offering a secure pension and good salaries, or the more uncertain artistic path. I opted for teacher education supplemented with a few university and master's degrees in management. My career unfolded in the Continuing and High School world, with a focus on management. During this period, my brushes were left to dry, the guitar collected dust, and the piano was eventually sold. However, a tumultuous phase in my life, marked by sharp shifts in work situations and a violent family event, prompted a significant change.

My paintings primarily take the form of figurative abstractions with the potential for narrative interpretations. I haven't confined myself to a specific technique but draw inspiration from two very different nonfigurative abstract artists, namely Mark Rothko and Gerhard Richter. My color choices lean towards strong hues, complemented by dark contrapuntal depths. I believe it's the viewer who should derive interpretation and analysis from their perspective. Although I usually have an idea from the white blank canvas to the finished painting, I refrain from sharing it, as doing so might compromise the viewer's opportunity for their own interpretation. In the words of Gerhard Richter, "I do not want to say anything with my paintings, and I do all the time."
