Austen Brantley

Artist Biography / Artist Statement

My work reflects the cultural lineage that shaped me, blending classical and African influences into a contemporary figurative language. Through sculpture, I explore how ancient history, modern experience, and the resilience of the human spirit intersect across time. Inspired by the precision of classical Greek forms and the symbolic depth of African art, my practice becomes a visual conversation between two worlds that are distinct yet deeply connected.

By layering classical aesthetics with culturally rooted motifs, I challenge assumptions about identity and belonging while celebrating the universality of human experience. Within each form are traces of struggle, endurance, and transformation—echoes of marginalized communities confronting daily realities. Through this fusion of past and present, I aim to illuminate the complexity of cultural identity and affirm art’s ability to bridge histories, perspectives, and people.
