Artist Biography / Artist Statement:

Chiharu Mizukawa, born in 1981 in Osaka, has been working on art projects across Japan since 2006. Her artworks are created using waste materials, as well as household water and seawater. She has participated in numerous art projects, residencies, and exhibitions both in Japan and abroad. One of her representative works is the aburidashi painting — a unique technique using leftover bath water, hot spring water, rainwater, and water from rivers and the sea to create invisible water paintings that reveal themselves when exposed to fire. This original technique transforms elements of Japanese culture into a distinctive art form.
