Elisabeth Gradl

Artist Biography / Artist Statement
In my work, I focus mainly on the sculptural representation of introspection. What defines us as humans? What do I see when I look inside myself? Are we made solely of natural components, or is it in fact the supernatural that constitutes the essence of what makes us human? Questions such as these form the basis of most of my work.

Another key aspect of my work is the female experience in a society that is still largely shaped by patriarchal structures. I am striving to give form to an individual but also widely shared experience amongst women regarding the female body, fertility and procreation, as well as gender roles and expectations.
