Enrico De Santis

Artist Biography / Artist Statement:
Enrico De Santis, born in Rome in 1970, is a well-known Italian photojournalist. He is a lecturer in photojournalism and visual communication at the State University of Milan and an external critic at Apexart in New York.

He has produced numerous international reportages. His artworks are the Esokalyes. The word derives from the Greek prefix éxō (“outside”), combined with the adjective kalòs (“beautiful”). It expresses the artistic attitude to make Beauty come out. These artworks are composed of photographs inserted into ancient doors, old ladders, window frames, or pieces of boats, all retrieved and regenerated by the artist’s hands. These woods are an essential part of the whole work, not delimiting it, but linking to other dimensions.

All Esokalyes come with a certificate of authenticity.
