HIROKO SAIGUSS

I initiated my artistic journey at the tender age of 3, residing in Tokyo. Following my graduation from an art school, I earned acceptance into Central Saint Martins, London. My paintings have graced exhibitions in prominent locations such as Belgium, Vienna, London, Paris, and New York, garnering numerous awards and featuring appearances on television. I proudly stand as the sole Japanese artist dedicated to conveying the allure of Japanese culture through my art.

My artistic endeavors center around the transformation of salvation into art, as outlined in my Biography and Artist Statement. This narrative delves into the methods and effects integral to my creative process.

My background as a fortune teller exposes me to individuals in contemporary society grappling with troubles, anxiety, and suffering. Rather than mere "hope for the future," many seek "salvation" from their current predicaments. The overarching theme of my artwork is to aid and uphold the salvation of those in distress, utilizing both the spoken word as a fortune teller and visual artistry as an artist.

In response to this thematic exploration, I have honed a distinctive artistic approach, melding action painting and sparse painting techniques. Action painting, characterized by impulsive brushwork, harmonizes with sparse painting, known for its restrained and diluted expressions. Through this fusion, I aspire to unveil the silence resonating within the passion depicted on the canvas, evoking a profound sense of tranquility and serenity in the viewer.
