Lene Birch Vestergaard
Artist Biography / Artist Statement
Self-taught artist with countless workshops behind me and more than 30 years of experience as an art teacher in a variety of schools.
One source of inspiration is my garden, which I started creating 29 years ago. I see it as my canvas. Working there is like painting with trees, shrubs, and plants.
Another source is the Nordic region. My husband is from Iceland, and the first time I discovered Iceland, the experience was etched into my soul. I was completely overwhelmed by how nature could be—at once so fierce, poetic, and full of contrasts. Both Iceland and the Faroe Islands have become endless sources of inspiration. Water, the very essence of life, often emerges as a central theme in my work. This is what I strive to express in my paintings.
List of Previous Exhibitions
I have exhibited in different places in Denmark during the last 20 years. Unfortunately, I did not keep a list.
In 2023, I went on early retirement, which means that if I earn money, it will be subtracted. I therefore decided to produce many paintings to create a collection and minimize exhibitions until August 2026, when I will be “fully” retired. Instead, I created an Instagram profile, which has already resulted in many invitations to exhibit abroad.
