Mediya is an abstract artist from the UAE, and she paint music. As a person with auditory-visual synesthesia, her connection to music is deeply central in her work. Whether it's going on a long car ride and listening to the radio or a song a friend will send to her, a song will come through that will feel just right to paint that day and so she play the song on loop on her speakers as she paints.

The song will be translated into colors, shapes, textures and more importantly the energy the music evokes through me onto the canvas.

I love the multilateral connection that is made from the song coming through, to the connections to certain colors the melodies imprint in my mind, to the emotions I get to exercise through this spontaneous dance and movement of the brush into the full creation of each piece - the connections never end & that keeps me going.”
