Mendi David 

 

Mendi David, was born in Brazil, Rio de Janeiro, 1938. Between 1953 and 1955, he studied drawing and painting at the School of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro and woodcut with Oswaldo Goeldi. From 1955 to 1965, he participated in a group at Teatro Amador, in Rio de Janeiro. As he graduated in economics, he worked in the field of banking marketing. 

In 1979 he immigrated to Israel with his wife and children. In 1980 he became a member of Kibbutz Hamaapil, where he had a space for his artistic creation. In 1984 he moved with his family to the city of Ness Ziona where he lives today. Since 2006 he has been dedicating himself to painting. 

Art and rationalization: "In general, I don't plan the works; they come up, at the beginning, in a spontaneous way. Only after placing the materials on the canvas, I feel the environment created by the materials themselves and imagine what can be done with what already exists. What was done in an intuitive way, feeds the imagination and begins to rationalize the work. I don't stick to any style, and that, makes you have surprises during the process of each work."
