Muriel Gallardo

Artist Biography / Artist Statement:

Muriel grew up surrounded by art, as her father was a renowned painter and sculptor in Guatemala. This early exposure deeply shaped her creative path. After high school, she received a scholarship to study Italian in Perugia, Italy, where she also took art-related courses. She later pursued a degree in Anthropology at Universidad del Valle and worked as an Italian and German teacher before fully dedicating herself to the arts in 2024.

Her multidisciplinary practice includes painting, sculpture, and photography, drawing inspiration from academicism, the human figure, and philosophical themes. Her work often explores duality: light and shadow, good and bad, emphasizing their interdependence.

A recurring subject in her work is the human hand, which she sees as a silent narrator of time, individuality, and the beauty found in imperfection.
