Nora Pilarte

Artist Statement:

I like painting what I have in my imagination. Something that can come from an experience I have lived, a person, or a moment. Sometimes I only let myself go; I don’t think of anything concrete; I start painting, that’s all. I try to be free about my thoughts, and when I paint, I usually put my mind apart and let my body speak.

The process can be short or not, depending on the result on the paper or the canvas. I look at the painting, and I decide to go far away or not. It's what I see and what I feel that tells me what to do. It's an amazing process, surprising myself with the mixture of colors, the forms, the structures that are displayed in front of me.

I like black and white or colors in the same way that I like the night or the day too. I decide the artwork is finished when I find forms are balanced or in harmony in the space. People inspire me with their words, their observations, or their attitude in front of my paintings.
