Thale Steen-Hansen

Thale Steen-Hansen is a Norwegian visual artist whose work explores the relationship between memory, perception and inner life.

Working with layered photographic fragments, traces of light, architecture and text, Steen-Hansen creates compositions that move between the recognisable and the ambiguous. Her work explores how memories are formed, altered and reconstructed, transforming fragments of lived experience into visual spaces where the physical and psychological intersect.

Through an interplay of transparency, texture and shifting perspectives, her images evoke a sense of both movement and stillness. Open to interpretation, they invite the viewer to discover personal associations and meanings beyond the immediately visible.

Produced as unique works rather than editions, her photographic compositions retain the individuality and physical presence of singular artworks.

In 2026, Steen-Hansen's work was presented by GaudĂ Gallery in Marbella, followed by her solo exhibition Hvis du ser(If You Look) at Urdihuset in Bergen. Later that year, her work was exhibited at Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, represented by Artio Gallery.

Steen-Hansen lives and works in Bergen, Norway.
