Artist Biography / Artist Statement:

Mr. Yi Zhu is an artist amidst the great social transformations in China. In his early years, he engaged in printmaking and illustration creation, positioning himself as a creator who deconstructs and reconstructs paintings. During the global pandemic, witnessing the ups and downs of life amid the epidemic, he realized that the underlying logic of life is breathing. Due to social factors, this breathing takes on an attitude, embodying the tension and constrictive force of life. In response, Mr. Yi Zhu developed a strong desire to express this perception of life. Exhalation represents tension, while inhalation symbolizes constrictive force. The essence of life is freedom, for which Mr. Yi Zhu has created a large number of oil paintings and printmaking works.
